Mindy did her Zoom/Rummikub session this morning, out on the patio outside our room at the Lodge.  We then had a decent breakfast there, got ready, and moved on--it was a big traveling day.

People hearing about this trip were all asking us the same thing--were we going to go to Mackinac Island?  Well, we had already decided since we would go by there again during our loops of both Lake Huron and Lake Superior, we would skip it this time.  The foggy weather basically sealed the deal.

So it was over the long bridge and into the Upper Peninsula.  A patriotic moose and a giant hot dog greeted us.

It kept drizzling for quite a while, and when it wasn't doing that it was foggy, so we started editing our list of stops.  But we made sure to stop for Pasties.  This version had a thinner crust and peppery innards.

I'm a sucker for obscure museums, so we had to stop at the "Top of the Lake" Snowmobile Museum. Dozens and dozens of various models going back to the '30s, along with a retrofitted Model T that reminded me of the film “The Great Race”.  Tons of memorabilia. Definitely worth it for five bucks.

We passed thru Manistique, and said “Hi” to its most famous resident.

After a few hours ‘round the upper banks of Lake Michigan, we entered Wisconsin, home to cheese shops and giant rodents.

Peshtigo, WI is the site of a major tragedy--a wildfire that wiped out the whole town in 1871.  Never heard of it?  That might be because it happened the same day as the Great Chicago Fire.  Mindy says that all Wisconsin school children learn about it.  The museum there doesn't open for another week.

As we headed toward Green Bay, it was time for burgers and custard at Zesty’s.  Culver's has nothing to worry about, although the homemade potato chips were outstanding.

We then drove up into Door County, specifically Sturgeon Bay and the Holiday Music Motel.  The first name comes from the original owners back in 1952, and the second from music performed and written there.  The place is a time capsule of 50’s lodging, and is kept up impeccably.  Mindy found another winner!

Enough for tonight--tomorrow, we explore Door County.
