We woke up and took advantage of the “diner” at the Holiday Music Motel--a room set up to look like a kitchen, complete with plates, cups, etc. You bring your own food and eat there, which we did.
We got our stuff together and headed off-- and I can't think of another time when I wanted to come up with an excuse to stay another night.
We drove up the “thumb” of the UP, otherwise known as Door County. We drove by a restaurant with a grass roof where goats would munch away if it wasn't the off-season...
...stopped at a little park right on the bay...
...enjoyed our second tart of the day along with coffee and hot chocolate...
...saw the site of organized graffiti...
...attempted to drown in a cup of coffee...
...and confirmed where a giant mouse was hiding his cheese.
Door County is very pretty, but we suspect it will be incredibly crowded in just a week or two.
We then made our way down into Green Bay, which we had already passed through on the way up. We were interested in the “tunnel of automatic fish", and art installation in a pedestrian tunnel below a city street. The tunnel is lined with metallic fish, and motion sensors trigger internal lights that makes it look like they are swimming. It apparently looks much better at night.
Then it was off to another example of giant architecture, in this case, a nut.
After a trip to WI mainstay Woodman's, and a so-so Mexican meal...
...we arrived in Kewanee, home to the world's largest working grandfather clock and our stop for the night.
Tomorrow, we go nautical as we cross the lake itself.
